Hardware and software requirements for SharePoint 2010

Over the last few weeks we have completed quite a few installs of SharePoint 2010 and one of the questions we get asked time and time again is what is required to run SharePoint 2010, so I thought this post I would write down exactly what is needed so I can point customers to this blog post and they would then have a reference chart of what is needed in their environment.

Hardware

SharePoint Server
Processor	64 Bit 4 Cores
Ram	8GB for production environment 16GB if you can
Hard Drive Space	80GB

SQL Server
Processor	64 Bit 4 Cores
Ram	8GB for production environment 16GB if you can
Hard Drive Space	80GB for System Drive 200GB for Data Drive

Software

SQL Server
Microsoft SQL Server 2005	64 Bit Edition with Service Pack 3
Microsoft SQL Server 2008	64 Bit Edition With Service Pack 1 and Cumulative Update 2
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2	No Patching Required

Windows Server

64 Bit Version of Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise, Data Center or Web Server editions with Service Pack 2

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Enterprise, Data Center or web Server editions
