Create Site collection seprate database – Sharepoint 2010

A simple way to create a site collection in any database you want is to set the desired database to “Ready” and set all others to “Offline”.

Lets see some of the methods with detail-

Create each site collection in a separate database -

1. Go to Central admin -> application management and under Databases select “Manage Content databases”

2. Select the desired web application from the top right drop-down.

3. Next click on “Add a Content database”. Give your new database a name and specify the available options.

4. Once you have created a new database you now need to set all other content databases for this web application as “offline”. This means that the existing content databases will not be receiving any new site collections. They will still be working.

5. To set all the other existing content databases to offline, simple click on the database and set the “Database status” to Offline.

6. Once all the other databases are offline you can create your new site collection. Before creating a new Site collection make sure that your new content database is Started.

You can set all the databases to offline always and set them to “Ready” only when you want to add a site collection into them.
